Spiral Snake Granny Square Youtube Tutorial

Follow this written pattern for my Spiral Snake Crochet Granny Square!

Materials:

Crochet Hook Size 5.0mm

Size 4 (medium) yarn (2 or more colors)

Scissors

Tapestry Needle

Abbreviations:

SC – Single Crochet

DC – Double Crochet

BLO – Back Loop Only

SL ST – Slip Stitch

ST – Stitch

STS – Stitches

TR – Triple Crochet

CH – Chain

The Base:

Foundation: CH 4 and SL ST into 1st Ch or MR to form a ring

Round 1: 8 DC into the ring, SL ST to 1st ST (8 DC)

Round 2: CH 1, in the BLO (Back Loop Only) place (2 HDC) into every ST in the round, SL ST to 1st ST (16 HDC)

Round 3: CH 1, in the BLO, [HDC, (2 HDC)] * repeat around, SL ST to 1st ST (24 HDC)

Round 4: CH 1, in the BLO, [HDC, HDC, (2 HDC)] * repeat around, SL ST to 1st ST (32 HDC)

Round 5: CH 1, in the BLO, [HDC, HDC, HDC, (2 HDC)] * repeat around, SL ST to 1st ST (40 HDC)

Round 6: CH 1, in the BLO, [HDC, HDC, HDC, HDC (2 HDC)] * repeat around, SL ST to 1st ST (48 HDC)

Now will square off the corners, each side of round 7 will have 11 stitches (not including the corners which will have 5 stitches each)

Round 7: CH 3, (2 DC) into same ST as CH 3, [DC, DC, HDC, HDC, SC, SC, SC, HDC, HDC, DC, DC] to create first side {2 DC, TR, 2 DC} into same ST to create the corner. repeat between [ and ] for each side and { and } for each corner ST, when you reach your original CH 3, Place (2 DC) into the ST to finish your corner and SL ST to 3rd CH of the CH 3 (count = 11 STS along each side – not including corner STS)

Round 8: CH 3, (2 DC) into same ST as CH 3, DC into each ST along the side, in the top of your TR corner ST place {2 DC, TR, 2 DC} into same ST to create the corner in this round. Place 1 DC in each ST along the side and repeat between { and } for each corner ST, when you reach your original CH 3, Place (2 DC) into the ST to finish your corner and SL ST to 3rd CH of the CH 3 (count = 15 STS along each side – not including corner STS)

Fasten off 

The Snake Body:

Step 1: To begin the snake, start with a SL ST on your hook. Find the first front loop from round 6 and place 1 SC into that ST

Step 2: place 1 SC into each front loop ST from round 5

Step 3: when you reach the end of the STS from round 5, SC into the 1st front loop ST from round 4 and continue to SC in each ST along the round

Step 4: when you reach the end of round 4, SC into the 1st front loop ST from round 3 and continue to SC into each ST in the round

Step 5: when you reach the end of round 3, SC into the 1st front loop ST from round 2 and continue to SC into each ST in the round

Step 5: when you reach the end of round 2, SC into the 1st front loop ST from round 1 and continue to SC into each ST in the round

Step 6: cut yarn and pull through, then thread yarn onto your tapestry needle and thread to the back of the square and fasten off

The Snake Head:

Step 1: CH 4, HDC into the 2nd loop from hook, DC in next loop, HDC in last

Step 2: CH 1, cut yarn and fasten off

Step 3: to make the eyes, use a yarn color different than the one you used for the head and thread the yarn two times around the DC of the head to make 2 little slits for eyes

Step 4: sew the head of the snake onto the granny square where you began the snake body

Fasten off.

Weave in all ends.
